Starting Your dōTERRA Journey in India
I spent over 20 years dealing with eczema, allergies, and inflammation. Those years taught me that lasting wellbeing isn't about chasing quick fixes. It comes from daily foundations. When you start exploring dōTERRA, don't look for a miracle. Look for tools to support your environment and your habits.
I've spent the last decade supporting thousands of people across India, Vietnam, and beyond. My approach is simple: focus on nutrition, movement, sleep, and managing your environment. Essential oils are just one part of that, but they can be a great addition to your daily self-care.
Why Start with a Kit?
I often suggest starting with a kit to people I work with. It removes the guesswork. You don't need a massive collection to get started. You need a few versatile oils and the consistency to actually use them.
- Simplicity: You get a curated set so you aren't overwhelmed by choices.
- Value: It is usually the most economical way to start.
- Guidance: Most kits come with resources to help you learn how to use them safely.
Popular Starter Kits
These are the foundational sets I see people using most often in India.
The Healthy Start Kit
This is a practical entry point. It includes ten 5ml oils and the Brevi® Stone Diffuser. I find a good diffuser makes creating a pleasant aroma in your home much easier.
- Includes: Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Oregano, Frankincense, Deep Blue®, dōTERRA Breathe®, DigestZen®, and On Guard®.
The Family Essentials Kit
If you already have a diffuser or prefer to focus strictly on the oils, this kit gives you the same ten foundational bottles without the hardware.
The Yoga Collection
When I work on my own movement practice, I look for scents that help me center myself. The Yoga Collection—Anchor®, Align®, and Arise®—offers exactly that. I suggest these for anyone who wants to bring a bit more focus to their stretching or meditation time.
Starting Small
You don't need everything at once. Results come from action and consistency, not from buying a large volume of products. If you prefer to start with just a few, try these:
- Lavender: I love this for its soothing scent.
- Lemon: I add 2 drops of this to a glass of water every morning before breakfast. It is a non-negotiable part of my day.
- Peppermint: Great when you need a crisp, invigorating aroma.
- Tea Tree: A staple in my skin care routines.
- Frankincense: A classic for creating a relaxing atmosphere.
Always pair your oils with a carrier like Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) for topical use. It makes the application smoother and is a habit I practice daily.
Safety and Practical Use
- Dilution: Always dilute with a carrier oil like Fractionated Coconut Oil before topical application.
- Patch Testing: Always test a small area of your skin first to see how you respond.
- Be Careful: Keep oils away from your eyes and ears.
- Specific Needs: If you are pregnant, nursing, or using these for children, talk to your doctor first.
- Sun Sensitivity: Citrus oils can cause photosensitivity. Stay out of direct sunlight for 12-24 hours after applying them to your skin.
- Storage: Keep your oils in a cool, dark place.
Disclaimer: Essential oils are for aromatic and topical use only. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any health condition. Consult a professional for personal medical advice.
